History of Napoléon Gallant


Napoléon Gallant was born on July 15,1838 in Tignish, PEI. He married Catherine Clark in St. Simon and St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada on November 10, 1863. Father D. Jerome McIssac officiated. Catherine was born in 1842.

When Catherine and Napoléon were first married, they' lived with Napoleon's parents, Sylvain Haché-Gallant and Marie (Gaudet) Gallant on Lot One, Nail Pond, Tignish, P. E. I. This home was built by Sylvain and his grandfather Prospère Gallant. It was later willed to Napoléon's son, James. Both Napoleon and Catherine died there.

Napoléon was a farmer and a Stage Coach Clerk for the Post Office. He also worked for J. C. Pope who owned a fishing company (taken from the 1881 census).

Catherine Clark was the daughter of John and Mary Shreenan Clark (each lot on P. E. I. encompassed thousands of Acres, so many families were living on the same lot or district).

Napoléon died in Tignish, PEI on February 20,1926. Catherine died in 1933.

Francis Napoléon (Frank) Gallant was born on September 26, 1864 in Tignish, PEI. He died on July 27, 1942 in Kinkora PEI. He married Frances (Fanny) McIver in 1890. Fanny was born in July, 1860 in Newton, PEI and died in January, 1952 in Kinkora, PEI. Frank and Fanny lived in Tignish, Newton and Kinkora, P.E.I. They had ten children.

Elizabeth A. (Annie) Gallant was born Abt. 1866, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard. She married Vincent Arsenault who was born in 1862 and died in 1926. They lived in Portland, Maine. They had three children Leo: Albert and Mary (May). Annie died in 1929.

Elislav Gallant was born Abt. 1867, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard. He died in infancy.

Thomas Gallant was born Abt. 1868, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard. He married unknown. They lived in Manchester, New Hampshire. Their children were Leon, Annie and Agnes. He remarried Cornelia Gaudet. They had a foster child, Elcide. Thomas was a successful meat cutter. Thomas died in Prince Edward Island at Unknown date.

Mary Ellen Gallant was born Abt. 1870, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard. She married Joseph O. Gaudet in 1894. Joseph was born in 1868 and died in 1932. ,They lived in Tignish, P.E.I. until they moved to Lawrence, MA in 1898 or 1899. Joseph H. Gaudet was their only child born in Tignish, P. E. I. The rest of the children were born in Lawrence, MA. They had six children. Joseph H. born in 1898 and died in 1983. He married Florence Risley in 1923. They had four children. John J. born in 1899. Margaret A. born in 1903, in 1923 she became a Sister of Norte Dame. She is known as Sister Mary Estelle. Mary Rose Catherine born in 1905, who died young. Mary Emily born in 1907 who married Carl E. Hewlin in 1944. They had no children. Mary Ellen died in 1939.

John Alfred Gallant born in 1871. He married Jane Handrahan and lived in on Palmer Road Tigriish, P.E.I. They had nine children: Annie, Leo, William, Charles, Raymond, Rositta, Margaret, Clara and Gerald.

Jean Gallant was born Abt. 1872, Prob. in Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard and died Unknown.

Clara A. Gallant was born on March 06, 1874, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. She married Thomas (J.P.) Doucette they lived in Summerside, P.E.I. They had six children. Their children are: Mary Winnifred born in 1906 who married George Frazer. They had four children, William, Robert, Frank and Richard who died in North Korea. Mary Winnifred lives in Aberdeen, MD. Arthur J born in 1907 who married Rachel Randolph they had four children, Joseph Arthur (Jad), Chris, Peter and Ann. They lived in Jackson, N. H. Catherine (Marie) born in 1910 and married Meeker. They had two children Joyce and Donald. Married Frank Burke. They had no children. They live in Jackson N.H. Mary A. born in 1913 who married Arthur Gaudet. They had nine children, Audrey, Eileen, twins Jean & Joan, David, Betty Ann, Mary, Eleanor and Kenneth. They live in Summerside, P.E.I. Agnes E. born in 1916 who married Donald Peterson. They had no children. They live in Brunswick, Maine. Thomas Hugh born in 1916 and died in 1979 who married Margaret Villard, They had no children. Agnes and Thomas were twins. Clara A. died in 1972.

Joseph A. Gallant was born Abt. 1876, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. He died Unknown.

Georges H. Gallant was born Abt. 1880, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. He remained single and lived in Nail Pond, Tignish, P.E.I. George H. died Unknown.

James Napoléon (Jim) Gallant was born on May 20, 1882, Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. He married Bridget Helen Ahearn, Abt. 1908, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. Bridget was born on February 15, 1891, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. and died on September 14, 1957, Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. They lived in Tignish, P.E.I. Their children: Bernetta married Ed Arsenault lived in Toronto, Ont. they had no children. She died in 1981. Ethel married Herman Doyle (separated) and lived in Toronto. Their children are Carl, Mary Frances and Gerarda. Ethel died in 1980. Frances remained single and lives in Ottawa, Ontario. Ruth 'married George Dupont and lives in Calgary. Mary Jo married Allan MacLellan and lives in Toronto. They had no children. Camilla remained single and lives in Ottawa, Ontario. Mark married Arlean Perry (originally Poirier). They live on Lot 1 at Nail Pond, Tignish, P. E. 1. They had nine children Their children are: Karen, Shane, Kerry, Helen, John died in 1985, Paula, Donna, Peter and Rodney. Jim died on April 29, 1965, Alberton, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard.

William (Willie) Gallant was born Abt. 1885, Prob. Tignish, Prince County, l'ile du Prince Edouard, Canada. Willie died in his teens.
